چکیده

Background Echocardiography (ECHO) is used for diagnosis and management of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). Morphologic diagnosis is based on the presence of myocardial thickness of >15mm in adults or a septum to posterior wall ratio of >1.5. Septal wall thickness (WT) >30 mm is one of several high risk features that are used to guide the decision for prophylactic implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) placement. Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) offers improved contrast resolution over ECHO and precisely defines myocardial WT in HCM.CMR is used in suspected HCM when ECHO is inconclusive for diagnosis or when additional information is needed. We tested the hypothesis that there are differences in maximal left ventricular myocardial WT as measured by CMR and ECHO in subjects with HCM due to asymmetric septal hypertrophy (ASH).

Discrepant Measurements of Maximal Left Ventricular Wall Thickness Between Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Echocardiography in Patients With Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.

BACKGROUND We sought to compare maximal left ventricular (LV) wall thickness (WT) measurements as obtained by routine clinical practice between echocardiography and cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) and document causes of discrepancy. METHODS AND RESULTS One-hundred and ninety-five patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (median age, 52.8±15.1 years) who underwent echocardiography and CMR im...

Comparison of echocardiographic and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy sarcomere mutation carriers without left ventricular hypertrophy.

BACKGROUND Left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) typically manifests during or after adolescence in sarcomere mutation carriers at risk for developing hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Guidelines recommend serial imaging of mutation carriers without LVH (G+/LVH-) to monitor for phenotypic evolution, but the optimal strategy is undefined. Compared with echocardiography (echo), cardiac MRI (CMR) offers i...

Structural abnormalities of the inferoseptal left ventricular wall detected by cardiac magnetic resonance imaging in carriers of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy mutations.

OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether structural left ventricular (LV) abnormalities can be observed in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) mutation carriers who have not yet developed echocardiographic signs of hypertrophy by using cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR). BACKGROUND Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is caused by mutations of genes encoding for sarcomeric prot...

Utility of cardiac magnetic resonance imaging in the diagnosis of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

BACKGROUND Two-dimensional echocardiography is currently the standard test for the clinical diagnosis of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). The present study was undertaken to determine whether cardiac MRI (CMR) affords greater accuracy than echocardiography in establishing the diagnosis and assessing the magnitude of left ventricular (LV) hypertrophy in HCM. METHODS AND RESULTS Forty-eight p...

Comparison of Fetal Echocardiography for Fetal Cardiac Structure in Women with Gestational Diabetes Mellitus and Normal Pregnancies

BackgroundIncreased metabolic rate of hyperglycemia in gestational diabetes causes macrosomia, which can also affect the fetal heart. The thickness of the walls of the heart and its function in women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) can change over time before treatment. We aimed to evaluate fetal cardiac structure in terms of ventricular wall thickness and its function in women w...
